Board of Directors Douglas G. Watson Douglas G. Watson is the founder of Pittencrieff Glen Associates, which was established in June, 1999. Prior to this, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Novartis Corporation, the US subsidiary of Novartis A.G. Mr. Watson's career spanned 33 years with Geigy/Ciba-Geigy/Novartis, during which time he held a variety of positions in the UK, Switzerland and the US. From 1986, he was President of Ciba US Pharmaceuticals Division until 1996, when he was appointed President & CEO of Ciba-Geigy Corporation. During this ten year period, Mr. Watson was an active member of the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers Association (PhRMA) board in Washington, DC. Mr. Watson became President & CEO of Novartis Corporation in 1997 when the merger of Ciba-Geigy & Sandoz was approved by the FTC. Mr Watson elected to take early retirement from Novartis in May, 1999. Mr. Watson also serves as Chairman of OraSure Technologies Inc., Chairman of Javelin Pharmaceuticals Inc., and as a member of the board of directors for Dendreon Corporation, Genta Inc., and BioMimetic Therapeutics Inc., Prior board memberships include Novartis Corporation, Engelhard Corporation, Summit Bank Corporation, BioElectronics Inc., InforMedix Inc., Principia Pharmaceuticals Inc., and ValiGen N.V. He is a member of the Freedom House Foundation, a member of the board of the American Liver Foundation, and on the Advisory Council of th New York Floating Hospital. Born near Pittencrieff Glen in the city of Dunfermline, Scotland, Mr. Watson holds an MA degree in pure mathematics from Churchill College, Cambridge University, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Daniel B. Carr, MD Daniel B. Carr, M.D has been Chief Medical Officer of Javelin since 2004 and is the Saltonstall Professor of Pain Research in the Departments of Anesthesia and Medicine at Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Carr is also a founding director of the MS Program in Pain Research, Education & Policy of Tufts University School of Medicine. He is known internationally for his contributions to pain research, evidence-based pain medicine, and to the social and political aspects of pain relief. He co-chaired and drafted major portions of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research Clinical Practice Guidelines on Acute and Cancer Pain Management, and has edited and authored over 300 articles and books spanning clinical practice, literature syntheses, and narrative medicine; systematic reviews in peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Carr is also the recipient of many awards and honors from leading professional organizations and healthcare institutions worldwide. Dr. Carr received an MD with Honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) as well as MS and BS (Honors) degrees in Physics from Columbia University. Fred H. Mermelstein, Ph.D. Dr. Mermelstein is the founder of Pain Management, Inc., now Javelin Pharmaceuticals and has served on the Board of Directors since its inception. Dr. Mermelstein has worked in various roles at the company including CEO and President. Formerly, Dr. Mermelstein served as Director of Venture Capital for Paramount Capital Investments, LLC., where he was also a General Partner of the of Orion Biomedical GP, LLC and has served on the New York Biotechnology Association’s Advisory Committee. He also serves as Chairman of Pear Tree Pharmaceuticals and Director of Adherex Technologies, Inc.; and previously Cardiome Pharma and the Jordan Heart Foundation. From February 1997 until January 2000, Dr. Mermelstein was the founder and has served as a Director and Chief Science Officer of PolaRx BioPharmaceuticals, an oncology-based biopharmaceutical company which developed Trisenox™. Dr. Mermelstein holds a dual PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Rutgers University and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed his post-doctoral training supported by two grant awards; a National Institutes of Health fellowship and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship in the Department of Biochemistry at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Mermelstein has authored numerous publications and several patents. Jackie M. Clegg The Honorable Jackie M. Clegg was appointed as a director of the Company in February 2004. In September 2001, she formed the international strategic consulting firm Clegg International Consultants, LLC (CIC) specializing in emerging markets. Previously, Ms. Clegg served a four-year term as Vice Chair and First Vice President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank). She also served as Ex-Im Bank’s Chief Operating Officer from January 1999 through fiscal year 2000. Prior to joining Ex-Im Bank, Ms. Clegg worked for 10 years in the United States Senate for Senator Jake Garn and as staff to both the Senate Banking and Appropriations Committees. Ms. Clegg is also currently serving as a Director of Blockbuster Inc. and the Chicago Board of Trade.
Neil W. Flanzraich Mr. Flanzraich joined the board of Javelin as director in June 2006 and is currently a private investor. From May 1998 to March 2006, he served as vice chairman and president of IVAX Corporation, a company specializing in the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of branded and generic pharmaceuticals and veterinary products. IVAX was acquired by Teva Pharmaceuticals in January 2006. From 1995 to 1998, Mr. Flanzraich was a shareholder and served as chairman of the life sciences legal practice group of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, a San Francisco-based law firm. From 1981 to 1995, he served in various capacities at Syntex Corporation, a pharmaceutical company, most recently as its senior vice president, general counsel and a member of the corporate executive committee. In addition to the Javelin board of directors he is also a director of Continucare Corporation, a healthcare company, Equity One, Inc., a real estate company, Neurochem Inc., a biotechnology company, and RAE Systems Inc., a gas detection and security monitoring company. All of these are public companies. He received an A.B. degree from Harvard College (phi beta kappa, magna cum laude) and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School (magna cum laude). Martin J. Driscoll Director Mr. Driscoll became CEO of Javelin in March 2008 and brings more than twenty-five years of executive experience in pharmaceutical Marketing & Sales, Business Development and Operations to the company. Mr. Driscoll joined Javelin from Pear Tree Pharmaceuticals, a private pharmaceutical company focused on developing prescription products for women, prior to Pear Tree, Mr. Driscoll was a principal of MJD Consulting LLC, a commercial and management consulting firm for the pharmaceutical industry. Until August of 2005, Mr. Driscoll was Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Reliant Pharmaceuticals, a privately-held company that markets a portfolio of branded pharmaceutical products, where he was a member of the Management Committee and an Executive Officer of the Company. Prior to joining Reliant, Mr. Driscoll was Vice President of Commercial Operations and Business Development at ViroPharma Inc. Mr. Driscoll was also the ViroPharma Chair for the ViroPharma/Aventis Joint Steering Committee for the companies' antiviral product collaboration. From 1983 to 2000, Mr. Driscoll held positions of increasing responsibility at the Schering-Plough Corporation, including Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Schering's Primary Care, Diabetes, Acute Coronary Syndromes, and Key Pharmaceuticals Units. His experience includes management of franchises that encompass oncologic, cardiovascular, anti-infective, metabolic, CNS, pulmonary and dermatologic products. His extensive experience includes the negotiation, implementation and management of collaborations with other life sciences companies from both the licensor and licensee perspective.
